According to industry analysts, video conferencing is on the rise. Several factors are fueling the growth, including a growing remote workforce. In research conducted by Global Workplace Analytics, 3.7 million US employees now work from home at least part of the time. Over 80% of those questioned said they would like to telework at least part time.
As you’d likely expect, cost reduction is another contributing factor. In fact, IDG projects that telepresence will cut travel expenses by over 90 percent.
The millennial workforce has also played a part in expanding video usage. West Unified Commincations studied the video conferencing habits of 230 professionals across the US and found workers aged 18-34 are indeed more likely to use video than their Gen X and Baby Boomer counterparts.
There are studies that indicate video conferencing has a direct impact on the success of meetings as well:
- 73% of workers admit to being more attentive and engaged in video conference calls than audio-only calls, and 82% make an effort to prepare more for video calls. (West UC)
- 94% of companies surveyed say increased efficiency and productivity is the top benefit of video conferencing. (Polycom)
